What are the Symptoms of Hyperhidrosis?

Plymouth Meeting miraDry

About Hyperhidrosis

Hyperhydrosis is the scientific name for excess sweating. It can affect one part of the body, such as the armpits, or it can affect the whole body causing excessive sweating all over the body. The condition can affect people of all ages, though it tends to present itself during adolescence.  Sometimes it can get better with age; however, no one should need to live with excessive sweating until this point.

Hyperhidrosis can affect a person’s personal and working life, crushing their self-esteem and confidence and making it harder for them to wear a uniform, enjoy time with their friends, or even to conduct simple tasks like holding a pen or shaking someone’s hand.

The good news is that there are several things that you can do to help you manage your hyperhidrosis. There is a range of treatments available from the pharmacist, such as strong antiperspirants, sweat shields, and soap substitutes; however, these do not treat the root cause of your problem: your overactive sweat glands.

To stop yourself from sweating completely, you may want to consider a revolutionary procedure such as miraDry, which targets the sweat glands directly to prevent them from producing sweat.

miraDry for Hyperhidrosis

MiraDry is an FDA approved treatment for hyperhidrosis and has been available as a treatment since 2001. miraDry stops hyperhidrosis by using electromagnetic energy to destroy your sweat glands, leaving them unable to sweat. The treatment is most effective at preventing underarm sweating, proving itself to be able to help more than 90% of people and to reduce their sweat output by as much as 82%

During your miraDry procedure, your clinician will numb your underarm area so that you are comfortable and will then place the miraDry handpiece directly onto your skin to apply the miraWave energy. You may feel a slight suction as the device pulls your skin closer to the surface, but you will feel no pain or discomfort.

Following your procedure, you will notice a dramatic reduction in your sweating immediately, and because miraDry is a permanent solution, most patients find that just one or two treatments are required for them to eliminate the vast majority of their underarm sweat glands successfully.

Unlike Botox injections and medications, miraDry has very minimal side effects, and there is virtually no downtime after the treatment. Some patients do experience minor bruising or swelling under their arms; however, this is usually short-lived and subsides very quickly.

The benefits of miraDry

miraDry is quickly becoming one of the preferred treatment options for those with hyperhidrosis because it offers many benefits including;

  • It provides immediate results
  • It is permanent
  • It has little to no downtime
  • It does not involve the use of toxins like Botox
  • It is FDA-cleared and CE marked
  • And most importantly – it stops you from sweating for good!
