What is a miraDry® Procedure?

miraDry Plymouth Meeting

While most of us wish we didn’t have to put up with underarm sweat and body odor, some people have a condition called hyperhidrosis. These people sweat excessively and cannot control it with any typical underarm products. Fortunately, Dr. Brenman can now offer miraDry®, the solution to underarm sweating

What is miraDry®?

If you have hyperhidrosis, you may benefit from the arrival of miraDry®, the first FDA-approved non-invasive treatment for hyperhidrosis. This treatment can give people up to 82% less sweat and up to 89% less odor. This can provide a dramatic improvement in your quality of life, giving you the freedom to stop worrying about your excessive sweating.

What is a miraDry® Procedure?

After applying a numbing cream, your treatment provider will move the miraDry® wand over your skin. You may feel a pulling or tugging sensation but no discomfort. The device applies a cooling sensation to keep the skin safe and comfortable.

The miraDry® energy does not harm the skin, but it causes thermal damage to the sweat glands in the underarm area. This deactivates the glands so they will stop producing sweat. Underarm odor comes from bacteria that live on sweat. When the sweat glands stop making sweat, the bacteria stop producing odor.

Treatment lasts about one hour, and some people will only need one treatment, but you may require two treatments to see the best results. Dr. Brenman will assess your results after the first treatment to determine whether you would benefit from another one.

What are the Benefits of miraDry®?

You will enjoy benefits that go far beyond dryer underarms with miraDry®.

  • No more sweat-damaged clothes
  • No more chemical antiperspirants or deodorants
  • No more checking for sweat stains or odor
  • Improved self-confidence
  • Less social anxiety

Freedom from hyperhidrosis can make people feel liberated from all the worries and anxieties that go with it. After years of unsuccessful attempts to control underarm sweat, a treatment like miraDry® offers a chance to put it in your past.

How Long Does miraDry® Last?

Because the thermal energy inactivates the sweat glands, they will not produce sweat again. You can expect your improvements to last into the foreseeable future, making hyperhidrosis one less thing you have to think about again.

Am I a Good Candidate for miraDry® Treatment?

If you have hyperhidrosis in the underarm area, you may be a good candidate for miraDry®. People who have any type of medical device and have been told to avoid this type of treatment may not make good candidates.

Is There Any Downtime With miraDry®?

You can go back to your regular activities after a  miraDry® treatment. Your skin may feel sensitive or numb in the treated area, and you may have some bruising or redness. These will all resolve on their own.
